WIN News spoke with two of our educators from the University Preschool and Child Care Centre (UPCCC) about the new facilities being constructed by ANU. The facility shown in this video is one of two and has been built in our UPCCC carpark.
This story follows a Town Hall hosted by ANU on Wednesday 17 July where ANU representatives confirmed there will not be enough places in the two new facilities for all existing families. This suggests many families will be left without care for their children.
At the Town Hall it was also confirmed by ANU that they intend for this facility to be a long-term one, stating:
“The facility has a lifespan that will readily exceed 15 years. Importantly, the National Capital Authority (NCA) has granted ANU a 10-year approval to use the facility for childcare, and the ANU has options to extend, subject to that ANU approval.”
ANU also stated:
“We’re confident in what we're designing and what we're producing for our community will be very well received by a future operator.”
We are deeply concerned by the reduction in places and the intention to use this facility as a long-term home for childcare at ANU.
We will continue to advocate for continuity of care for all existing families. Every one of our families holds an important place in our community.
We also continue to call on ANU for increased transparency on facilities, both existing heritage facilities and new ones.
