The Issue

Growing up in Antioch, Centennial Park was literally in my backyard. It remains an iconic piece of our local landscape, rich in history and charm. So, it’s deeply disappointing to see the Village of Antioch considering plans to demolish this beloved green space. The village is using grant funds that were initially meant to renovate Centennial Park, only to replace it with a modern, smaller park, stripping away the nostalgic aura that has been part of our community for generations.

Centennial Park is not just any park; it has been a communal space where countless memories have been crafted. Many of us have played there as children, and it has been our hope that our children's children will get the same joyful experiences in this beautiful, historical setting. The park has been a silent witness to many generations and stands as a symbol of unity among us residents.

The decision to demolish Centennial Park disregards its historical significance and replaces it with something that lacks the character and depth that has marked our community’s existence. The essence of this park goes beyond its physical attributes. It embodies the spirit and legacy of Antioch itself, hosting community events, casual family picnics, and simple strolls that invigorate our community life. Not to mention the Village in doing so is going back on its word to utilize grant revenue it has received to renovate not destroy centennial park.

Rather than tearing down what remains a central part of our heritage, let's advocate for restoration—a process that can revitalize Centennial Park while preserving its historic essence. We suggest the village use its grant funds not for demolition, but for thoughtful updates and improvements that enhance and celebrate the park's rich history. Implementing features that honor the past while accommodating current needs can create a revitalized space that serves our community for generations to come.

To make this dream a reality, we need your support. By signing this petition, you are standing up for our community, our history, and a future where Centennial Park remains a cherished part of Antioch. Let's work together to protect Centennial Park and ensure it continues to be a place of joy and shared memories for every resident who calls Antioch home. Please join us in this effort to preserve a vital piece of our town’s identity. Sign this petition to save Centennial Park for the future.
