Save and Strengthen Government Schools in Karnataka

Save and Strengthen Government Schools in Karnataka
The Issue
Save Government Schools in Karnataka – Stop Closure, Fill Vacancies, Ensure Basic Facilities
To,
Shri Siddaramaiah
Hon’ble Chief Minister of Karnataka
We, the undersigned citizens of Karnataka, are deeply concerned about the alarming state of government schools in our state. Public education is the backbone of an equitable society and the only hope for millions of children from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
The All India Democratic Students’ Organisation (AIDSO), with support from students, teachers, parents, and concerned citizens, has already collected 45 lakh signatures across the state demanding urgent action to protect and strengthen government schools. As part of this ongoing movement, we are now launching this online petition to further amplify our voice.
Instead of taking steps to resolve the severe issues plaguing the public education system, the government is contemplating closure or merger of government schools under the pretext of low enrolment. This is not a solution — it is a step towards privatization and exclusion, and it puts the future of countless children at stake.
We strongly oppose any move to close or merge government schools.
We appeal to the Hon’ble Chief Minister to take immediate steps to strengthen public education by addressing the following urgent issues:
Fill 52,000 vacant teacher posts in government schools without delay.
Ensure basic infrastructure in all schools: Over 7,000 schools still lack drinking water and toilet facilities, especially for girls.
Rebuild 21,000 school buildings that are in a dilapidated and unsafe condition.
Provide adequate funding and support to improve the quality of education in all government schools.
Every child has a right to quality education. Instead of shrinking the public education system, the government must expand and upgrade it. We urge you to listen to the voice of lakhs of students, parents, and teachers who are pleading for justice.
We demand:
No closure or merger of government schools
Strengthening of existing infrastructure and facilities
Immediate recruitment of teachers
A long-term vision to protect and promote public education in Karnataka
We request all concerned citizens to support this cause by signing this petition and standing up for the right to education for all.
