The Issue

Our children are growing up in a generation where screens too often replace fresh air and exercise. Ilchester’s skate park gave them a safe place to get outside, stay active, and connect with friends — but now it’s being removed. Losing this space means losing an outlet that kept our young people healthy, engaged, and part of the community.

Ilchester’s skate park has been an important part of our village for years — a free and safe place where children, teenagers, and families could meet and enjoy outdoor activity. While we understand the safety and insurance concerns that have led to its closure, removing the skate park without replacing it leaves our community without a vital facility.

A new skate park would provide:

 • A safe and positive space for young people to socialise and stay active.

 • A healthy alternative to excessive screen time.

 • A facility that reduces boredom and antisocial behaviour.

 • A community space that promotes pride, health, and wellbeing for all.

We are calling on Ilchester Town Trust and Yeovil Town Council to support plans for a new, safe skate park by:

 1. Working with residents, young people, and local businesses.

 2. Seeking grants and funding from organisations such as Sport England.

 3. Making this project a priority for the future of our village.

With enough community support, we can show decision-makers that Ilchester needs and deserves a new skate park
