I’m writing this on behalf of a friend who is being forced into an unbearable situation — being told she has to choose between her child and her beloved dog.
She has owned her XL Bully since before she was pregnant and before her child was born. This dog has been by her side for years, through some of the hardest moments of her life. She has never shown aggression and has always been loving and gentle around people, children and other animals.
My friend has also been an extremely responsible owner. She went through the proper legal process and was granted the necessary papers. She follows the rules, including muzzling her dog in public, and has always taken her responsibilities as a dog owner seriously.
Despite this, she is now being told by SWP and social services that her dog cannot remain in the household because of its breed, despite the fact that the dog has never harmed or threatened anyone.
She has even offered a compromise — for the dog to be rehomed with a trusted friend, so that her child can remain her absolute priority while her dog can continue to live a safe and happy life.
That option has reportedly been refused, and she has instead been told that the dog may have to be put to sleep by next week!
This is absolutely heartbreaking.
Nobody is saying that a child's safety should ever be compromised. Of course her child comes first. But surely there should be a way to protect the child without unnecessarily taking the life of an innocent animal that has never done anything wrong.
This dog is being judged because of its breed, not because of its behaviour or history.
Please, if you can, sign the petition and share it far and wide. Give this dog a chance to stay alive and, if necessary, live safely away from the family home with someone trusted.
❤️ No dog should lose its life simply because of what it looks like or what breed it is.
Thank you to everyone who takes the time to sign, share and support this family. 🐾
