The Issue

This week DOGE has moved to cut funding to AmeriCorps, leading to the placement of approximately 85% of its federal staff on administrative leave at the direction of Elon Musk.

Earlier, DOGE led the dismissal of over 1,500 staff from AmeriCorps’ disaster relief teams -- National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) members.

These actions have disrupted vital community services, including disaster response, environmental conservation, and support for nonprofit organizations.

AmeriCorps has been a cornerstone of national service since its establishment in 1993, engaging more than five million Americans in addressing critical community needs.

Its programs have primarily attracted young Americans from diverse backgrounds into community service for a roughly $4,000 stipend, housing and food, and a grant to be used toward higher education if they complete their program.

DOGE's funding cuts mean the end of these essential services, especially in underserved and rural areas.

We call upon the Department of Government Efficiency to immediately reinstate full funding for AmeriCorps, ensuring the continuation of its programs and services.

Recognize and support the invaluable contributions of AmeriCorps members to communities across the nation!
