Petition to Save Lowell Buildings from Abandonment and demolition

Freeport MacMoRan has canceled the leases of multiple tenants with the plans on abandoning these functioning and historic buildings. FMI does not understand that the Historic Preservation of the Architecture of Bisbee is critical to the economy of Bisbee, which relies on Tourism for Jobs.

Jobs that directly relate to Historic Preservation and Tourism are Bars, Restaurants, Hotels, Service employees, Carpenters, Contractors, Architects & Engineers, Historians, Museum Staff, Event Staff. From these jobs the economy relies; Healthcare, transportation, government, daycare, schools, groceries, retail. Phelps Dodge closed the mine in 1973, it IS tourism that has kept it alive.

We call on Freeport to designate, protect, maintain or sell historic properties throughout Bisbee that are Brick and Mortar, Steel Headframes, Concentrators, and other landmark mining structures that make Bisbee a unique historic destination where the public learns about this history of copper mining in Arizona.
