Horses are our past, future and present. They have carried us on their back for hundreds of years and still do. Throughout history, the horse has occupied a powerful place in the emotional, spiritual and daily lives of humans. In fact, its scientifically proven that horses understand humans better than humans can. Being around horses and doing horse riding is also great for our physical, mental, and emotional health. In many places around the world, they are being used to treat people who are having trouble physically, emotionally and mentally and these people have recovered very fast.

The Amateur Riders’ Club (ARC) was established in 1942 and is one of the oldest and largest private civilian riding clubs in India. It is amongst the premier institutions of its kind in the country and still produces many of the best riders in India.

At ARC (Amateur Riders Club), young riders are always being trained and many of them are winning competitions locally, nationally and internationally. It provides training across various equestrian sports such as dressage, show jumping, mounted sports and polo.  India has won so much in equestrian sports in the Asian games and so many more international competitions giving India pride. Many of these winners are from ARC, yet, in the plan to make the racecourse an amusement park, ARC is not even spoken of in the plan!

Here are 5 reasons why Mumbai needs ARC in the heart of the city:

  • Equine therapy (therapy by riding and taking care of horses) has helped people recover from various diseases.
  • Riding horses also is a great workout and helps physical health.
  • It also improves our concentration as while riding you have to keep balance and at a good pace. You also have to be aware of your surroundings.
  • It improves your decision making as you are constantly deciding whether to speed up or slow down, what paths to avoid, when the horse and you need a break. That knowledge translates into the rest of your life, too.
  • Horses are also very loyal, understanding and intelligent. They can also understand your feelings and empathize for you. Once you have a bond with them, they will never let you down and this makes them like your best friend whom you can trust and share your feelings with.
