Not just an app

AltSpace VR is currently one of the most successful social VR apps, and hosts hundreds of thousands active members, live communities, events, wonderful user-created worlds and much more. Many friendships then turned real-life friendships, and even true loves, were born here. Incredible moments were shared with users connected from all corners of the world, who for some moments lived the same emotions.

What is AltSpace VR

AltSpace VR is a successful cross-platform social app born in 2013 thanks to Eric Romo, and it came to life in 2015, when it was available on PC, Android devices and finally in virtual reality headsets. In 2017 AltSpace was acquired by Microsoft who has been constantly working on the app, upgrading and updating it till it became on of the best and most used platform for the virtual reality community. These were the best years for the app, but also the worst ones. As big tec companies use to do with their acquired "toys", they decide to make them alive or put them out of order whenever they want, without thinking of the final users.

Sudden end 

March 15, 2023 is the day when the lights will go off definitely for AltSpace VR. Without any explanation whatsoever and with just 2 months notice (extremely short!), we discover that the biggest success of social vr is going to fall in a black hole. As well as all the contacts, photos, friendships and user-designed vast worlds. 

We think this is unacceptable. It might be only a software, but for entire global communities AltSpace VR represents the favorite meeting place, a place where we can learn, laugh, create, love... A place where people can be their real selves, a place where paraplegic people can fly again, where lonely or shy people found real friends, where shows and talks with real life professionals took place.

An issue for the creators

Let's talk about thousand of creators who crafted incredibly detailed and visually astonishing worlds, also with Unity or Blender. These worlds represent a shelter for many of users, and testify true talent of these creators. This app is different from all the others. It's a whole universe, with many practical tools, years of history and all of us still had many plans in there.
