Save All Island Grill Dalston from ethnic cleansing

Save All Island Grill Dalston from ethnic cleansing

The Issue

‘GENTRIFICATION ’ IS ANOTHER WORD FOR ETHNIC CLEANSING, AT LEAST IN HACKNEY - IF YOU AGREE COME TO BRADBURY ST DALSTON NEXT FRIDAY AFTERNOON FOR 3PM TO PROTEST

Hackney Council, backed by new landlords are evicting the popular All Island Grill owned by Levi Scarlett who has been there for 20 years.

The home of Afro Caribbean catering in Bradbury St is currently shut as the owner has been served with an enforcement notice because of alleged complaints of smoke and noise from residents of Dalston Tower.

Levi has always paid his rent on the nail. In the fall out following the closure residents of the Tower and other buildings have come forward to say no complaints were ever issued.

The real reason is that the new landlords want to maximise the value of the building which has a large flat above it.

We are today starting the campaign to save All Island Grill. If it goes then so will other black businesses in the street and the adjoining Gillett Square, opened as an urban space by Ken Livingstone, will go as well. The knock one effect.

This is a stake in the ground to preserve the identity and culture of this pocket of London life we beg you to sign this petition.
