Hi neighbors. I would also like see the Acapulco stay. The problem we face is that this is not the City of Glendale’s property. It belongs to a private owner. He/she has been leasing the space to the Acapulco but apparently is looking for another lessee. Since the area is zoned to allow for commercial businesses, including car washes, the owner has the right to put a car wash there. The only way to change that is if we were to make a zoning change and either disallow that use or put stringent conditions around it. But this is a very involved process and would need a strong justification and a supermajority of Council to approve.

In the near term, the only way to get this reconsidered is to appeal it, in which case it would go to the Design Review Board (it was actually approved internally, not through that body, so it would go there first). Just be aware that an appeal is costly and there is no guarantee of success. If anyone wants to talk further, please email me at dbrotman@glendaleca.gov.
