Every pet owner understands the profound connection that forms between their family and their beloved pets. For our family, our dog has been more than a pet; she has been a friend, a comforter, and a joyful presence in our home. For my autistic 8-year-old son, she is his best friend and companion, providing emotional stability and unconditional love during times of distress. Her gentle nature and sweet soul have offered a sense of normalcy and happiness that few could understand until they experienced it themselves.

However, despite her loving demeanor, our dog was shockingly deemed "dangerous" based on scant evidence and is now facing euthanasia due to a legal battle. This label was assigned without a thorough process or sufficient evidence, leaving our family shattered at the thought of losing a cherished family member. Due to a lack of financial resources, we are forced to comply with placing her in a shelter. The alternative — to keep her safe by paying $5000 for boarding — is financially out of reach for our family.

We urgently appeal to the authorities to reconsider this drastic measure and allow a fair reassessment of our dog's behavior outside of the shelter environment. The implications of this ruling extend beyond our household, sending a chilling message to all pet owners who, due to unforeseen circumstances, might find themselves in similar predicaments.

A sustainable solution could involve allowing our dog to stay temporarily with a trusted third party or in a foster home, monitored and separated from the shelter's costs, while the court case proceeds.
