Save 711 Southland Road from demolition and reinstate heritage status

The issue

Hastings is quickly being overcome by dense residential housing new zealand developments at the cost of our green space, neighborhoods and historical landmarks. Our own land owners are being denied rights to subdivide all while housing new zealand developments are getting the green light to build multi-dwelling sections without even seeking to inform neighbours of the planned developments.

The latest property in their crosshairs is 711 Southland Road. A 2,500sqm section with a previously heritage listed 1910 Tudor 2 story villa, located directly opposite Hastings Race Course. If consent number RMA20230061 to Hastings Council is approved, they will likely demolish this landmark in order to build 11 houses on the section.

Without opposal to this planned development, Hastings will likely lose this iconic landmark, yet another dense housing section will be built and neighbours, race goers and Hastings itself will have lost something great in return for little to no gain, when other suitable sites exist (like maybe 805-809 Southland Road)
