109 General Store and our sister cafe Heaton Perk have been instrumental in turning Heaton Park Road into the thriving hot spot it is now, but this has come at a price. Literally. Our landlords at the council have seen these improvements as an excuse to almost double our rent which is completely unsustainable for our little sustainable business. Oh the irony!

We are the last refill focussed shop in Newcastle, with the loss of our wonderful friends at Nil Living and Something Good in the last few years. To force the closure of this last eco-friendly shopping option seems to fly in the face of the council's promises to support local businesses as well as their green policies and net zero goals.
