Help Make SCAD Laundry Free

The Issue

The price of housing at Savannah College of Art and Design is $14,550 a year, not including a $500 reservation fee. This is in addition to the already inflated $57,443 tuition cost, as well as a quarterly meal plan. While families quickly get drained of money paying this much yearly, a large population of students sink themselves into loan debt before they turn 20. Meanwhile, students must spend hundreds of dollars a quarter on books and art supplies that they are required to buy.

With all of this money accumulating every quarter, SCAD continues to charge for each and every load of laundry for those living in the residents halls. While a minimum of $3 a week doesn’t seem like a lot, this number can quickly add up over the course of a quarter, a year, and eventually the entire 4 years at the university. It doesn’t make much sense that, while a student pays thousands and thousands of dollars every year to live in the dorms, a simple load of laundry can’t be covered by the cost of room and board. What even is board anyway??

With this petition, our goal is to get rid of the quarter machines in the resident halls and make laundry at SCAD completely free, because heaven forbid anything else is.
