Objection to the changes to parking regulations at Saunton Beach: have our voices heard

The Issue

This petition is for all to sign who disagree with the 'proposed' changes to car parking at Saunton Sands Beach. A planning application has been submitted to North Devon Council to install Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras, barriers and parking meters with parking being charged 24 hours a day!

A mere free 10 minutes has been offered for pick up/drop off (which isn't sufficient when collecting e.g. from the lifesaving clubs), followed by £2 for the first hour and £1.50 thereafter. The owners of the car park have also suggested that locals can buy a 'pass' for £50 which offers a slightly reduced rate. This pass is, supposedly, to benefit locals and valid for one vehicle only.

We believe these proposed changes have been badly thought through (if at all) and show the greed of the owners of the car park. Furthermore, local businesses will be detrimentally affected. Nobody will be able to use the beach without paying for the privilege 24 hours a day. Anyone wanting to go for a sunrise or sunset surf, walk or run will have to pay on future. This is appalling greed.

Please sign this petition if you oppose these changes, and if you will no longer use Saunton Beach as a direct result of these changes.

You can also oppose the planning application via the North Devon Council website, and if you wish to can view Saunton Beach's online presence via Facebook and tripadvisor.
