Call for Action: Defund the Saskatoon Police Service

Call for Action: Defund the Saskatoon Police Service
The Issue
The Community and the Saskatoon Coordinating Committee Against Police Violence call upon the City of Saskatoon to Disarm, Defund, and Abolish the Police.
The Saskatoon Police Services 2020 Operating Budget is currently $109 million or 20.6% of the total operating budget for the City of Saskatoon. This is for adding new things such as new in cruiser laptops and the hiring of new officers to "police" the area around the new safe injection site.
This money would be better spent on initiatives that reduce the socioeconomic conditions that lead to crime. spending money on officers to potentially inflict violence on addicts which is a health crisis flies in the face of bringing positive change to the community.
which is why we the masses demand 6 things from our city counselors.
1. To never again vote to increase the Saskatoon Police Services budget.
2. To propose and implement a revision to the pre-approved Saskatoon Police Services budget in order to cut, at the absolute minimum, $43 million in accordance with the City of Saskatoon’s operating budget shortfall projections due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
3. To prioritize the expansion of community-led health and safety initiatives over future financial investment into the Saskatoon Police Services.
4. Neil Stonechild's killers pensions to be stopped immediately as well as the officers involved to be put on trail for murder as well as the officers involved in the deaths of Rodney Naistus, Lawrence Wegner.
5. The immediate removal of all firearms in the regular day to day duties.
6. The creation of an independent civilian body made up of members of the community chosen by the community to oversee complaints directed at Saskatoon police officers.
