Amend Sarawak Labour Ordinance Section 84(1) to give not less than 90 days Maternity Leave

Amend Sarawak Labour Ordinance Section 84(1) to give not less than 90 days Maternity Leave
The Issue
Problem
The former Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib bin Tun Razak has announced during the 2017 Malaysia Budget that the Private Sector would give 90 days of maternity leave to women workers. But up to now, due to Sarawak Government haven't amend Section 84 (1) of Sarawak Labour Ordinance 1958, the announcement is still hanging and the 90 days maternity leave can't be materialized in Sarawak by the Private Sector even though the Public Sector has started practicing it. Means, Sarawak women workers still can't be benefited by the announcement.
Furthermore, we encourage women to be fruitful and multiply. Besides that, we encourage mothers to give breast-feeding to their new born babies due to health consideration. Mothers need time to recover from delivery.
Solution
Therefore, we urge Sarawakians to vote for this petition in order to urge Sarawak State Government and Sarawak State Assembly to amend on the Section 84 (1) of Sarawak Labour Ordinance 1958 to give not less then ninety (90) days of maternity leave
Personal story
I'm a pastor of Sarawak Chinese Annual Conference of Methodist Church in Malaysia. Biblically, we are taught to respect to Government policies/ encouragements as long as the policies/ encouragements are not clashed with Bible. On the other hand, we should give affirmation and enough care to women who have suffered for quite a long time in pregnancy to be well-recovered from delivery.
