A CRITICAL APPEAL TO PERMIT LEGITIMATE SPAS, REFLEXOLOGY AND WELLNESS CENTRES TO RE-OPEN

A CRITICAL APPEAL TO PERMIT LEGITIMATE SPAS, REFLEXOLOGY AND WELLNESS CENTRES TO RE-OPEN
The Issue
We, the genuine spas, reflexology & wellness centre owners in Sarawak.
We plea to the Malaysian Government to demonstrate mercy for our respectable holistic industry to resume operations, which has been shut since 18 March 2020.
Leaders in our sector have been forthcoming to propose stringent Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the Government to consider. We stand united with the Government to uphold high levels of hygiene and social distancing, so that the health and wellbeing of our customers and employees can be safeguarded. We have also been encouraging an open dialogue with the Government to enable our sector to be re-open.
Sadly, due to misperception, our sector has been classified as 'Entertainment' (HIBURAN) in Malaysia. We, the legitimate owners of spas and wellbeing centres, maintain that our businesses are professional and genuinely centered on the health and wellbeing of our customers, the Rakyat.
Our Customer Charter is the same as the beauty, hair and nail sector (which involves physical contact). And yet, the beauty, hair and nail sector was permitted to re-open but the spas and wellbeing centres were not.
Our industry has been abandoned. We are disappointed! We are sad! Our businesses have suffered tremendously from this prolonged closure. Jobs and livelihoods are at risks should the situation continue. And the repercussions will not just affect the workers in our industry, but also their families.
We are ready to play our part in the Recovery stage of our economy. Our sector is essential to those who need our professional services.
We desperately appeal to the Government to hear us out. We welcome feedback from the public to strengthen our proposed SOPs, because we care for everyone's wellbeing.
