Access to the Internet has been considered by the United Nations as a fundamental Human Right, as well as a vital tool for education. At Pine View, as well as all of Sarasota County Schools, Internet access by students, teachers, and staff is monitored extensively and often times blocked. While we completely understand the necessity and essential nature of our protection, it is undeniable that some select few changes can be made to mutually increase productivity and ease of Internet Access. For example, the "Blue Coat" Filter injects its own SSL certificates on popular websites in order to receive data from student browsing. However, in the process Google and other modern browsers detect this and reject website access for valid security reasons, resulting in the often frustrating inaccessibility to the Google Search Engine, Google Drive and other programs. I believe a large reason behind these shortcomings of the system is simply that the County is not aware of their effects on the student body.  By signing this petition you are not calling for radical change, but rather simply voicing that you believe improvements can be made.
