Airdrie needs 24 hour health care!!!

The Issue

After attending the Airdrie Health Foundation meeting November 20th at City Hall, I came away even more determined to stand with Dr. Kyne for his reinstatement as Medical Director of our Urgent Care Center. I left feeling more motivated to do what I could to effect the move to 24 hour health care for all of us.

Our need is great and continues to grow with almost 60,000 residents in our city and 25-30,000 outlying residents potentially requiring the services of Urgent Care at any time. That's 90,000 people at this point in time without immediate access to 24 hour health care.

Listening to some of the folks who attended the rally share their stories of the traumatic impact that lack of accessible care had in their lives was heart wrenching. I can't help but wonder how many countless numbers have experienced similar difficult life events that the general public is unaware of.

As winter weather fast approaches and we all know how treacherous a trip to Calgary via the Deerfoot Trail can be in a storm, let's think about even one scenario for one person needing medical attention after Urgent Care closes for the evening. Let's put ourselves in their shoes.

The Airdrie Health Foundation has been working behind the scenes for many years on our behalf to build an around the clock health care center. Citizens have generously donated land and philanthropists are ready to make this dream a reality. We also need Alberta Health Services on board to partner with the Airdrie community to do this. It's time to give this cause some much needed momentum by getting behind it. Let's be a voice, one voice at a time. One signature after another. Let's petition for change.

We can do this Airdrie!!! Dr. Kyne stated to the audience at the rally, " I'm not the driving force, YOU are the driving force". Quite simply, it's up to you and I to make a difference here for our families well-being and their families to come. It's time to rally together as only Airdrie can.

Our lack of access to care directly affects the Calgary hospitals and an already overburdened medical system, so please sign the attached petition for 24 Hour Health Care and send this to all your family and friends in Calgary to sign too.

Thank you Airdrie!
