This is a copy of the email that was sent to me. Dear Nadeem I am aware that you have set up a petition against the introduction of tennis court bookings at tennis courts throughout Brent. On looking at the comments posted it appears that the main concerns are related to charges, inability to pay by cash and lack of discounted rates for students. Brent Council appointed uPlay to manage the on line booking and payment system for the tennis courts which was introduced on 16 June 2014. This has been set up as a pilot project enabling online advance booking for tennis courts, which is fast and easy to do and means players can make sure they get a court when they want it. The decision about fees and charges is made annually and agreed by Councillors. Court hire is free for young people aged 16 and under and prices are very affordable for everyone else. It costs £6.50 per court per hour for adults – very good value if four people are playing doubles - with reduced rates for parents with children. There has been no approved student concession for many years. The only concession agreed was for young people aged 16 and under to play free of charge and for adults playing with those aged 16 and under to pay £3.25 per court per hour. The council has massively improved tennis facilities in recent years, investing £550,000 and building the first new courts in over 20 years last year, and we need to make sure we generate enough income to maintain our courts at this excellent standard. It is possible to pay the tennis warden cash for the court hire, when he is doing visiting the courts on a daily basis. I hope this answers some of your concerns about the on line booking/payment process. Please do not hesitate to contact me should you require any further information. Kind Regards Sarah
