Vinod Nair started this petition to Bhupender Yadav (Labour and employment minister) and

Private companies operating in India mostly have a notice period of 90 days.

This is done to discourage employees from leaving the firm. As this period is far too long, Most other companies aren't ready to wait for employees who have such long notice periods. This affects the chances of employees of getting opportunities elsewhere. They are forced to face the oppression or troubles faced or lower salaries in their current company or else be jobless. Often companies have vacancies that need to be filled immediately and cannot wait too long and allow the job to be kept on hold till someone arrives.

Since notice periods aren't regulated in India, companies are taking advantage of this. It is therefore my request to the labour ministry of India to regulate this period and not allow companies to have a notice period of more than 1 month maximum.

IF the period of 1 month is difficult to implement, the ministry may also set a limit as per number of years served - At the most 4 weeks' notice if employed between 6 months and 3 years. Additional 1 week’s notice for each year if employed between 3 and 12 years12 weeks’ notice if employed for 12 years or more.
