Santee Clean Air & Transparency Project

Santee Clean Air & Transparency Project
The Issue
Residents in Santee, California are becoming increasingly concerned about air quality in the Sycamore Canyon corridor, where multiple industrial operations—including a landfill, quarry, and heavy diesel truck traffic—operate near residential neighborhoods, schools, and parks.
Recent air toxics notification findings have shown that emissions from more than one facility in this area exceed California’s public notification threshold for long-term cancer risk. These findings are based on state-required assessments and indicate that emissions are present at levels requiring public awareness.
However, each facility has only been evaluated individually. There is currently no publicly available cumulative air toxics study that evaluates the combined impact of all pollution sources in the area.
Residents are exposed to these sources at the same time, yet there is no comprehensive analysis that reflects total exposure.
At this time, there is no confirmed health crisis, and this petition is not making any claims about causation. Instead, it is focused on transparency and understanding. The community is simply asking for a complete, science-based evaluation of air quality in the area.
Without a cumulative study, residents, agencies, and decision-makers do not have a full picture of environmental conditions in the Sycamore Canyon corridor.
