For those who might be able to attend, here is an advisory about a meeting being held tonight (Friday, April 5th), from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Peace United Church, located at 900 High Street in Santa Cruz.

Local pro-development interests have imported a State Senator from elsewhere (Senator Scott Weiner - from San Francisco) to tell Santa Cruz residents why SB 50, his bill to impair the ability of local communities to decide about future growth decisions for themselves, should be enacted.

Thier thought is forget about local control! What we need is to build more and build up - that is what those pro-devlopment interests are saying.  The San Francisco Board of Supervisors is officially OPPOSED TO SB 50.

The kind of growth that Weiner wants to REQUIRE local communities to promote is illustrated above on the upper part of Pacfic Avenue down town Santa Cruz.  Our traffic is already bad, accidents on Hwy 17 are bad and the new residential units being constructed contain ZERO AFFORDABLE UNITS!

Attend the meeting tonight! Be informed. Santa Cruz needs you.
