On The City Council's Agenda for Tues., Aug 28 Item #20 The recommendation presented to the Council on this item would assist developers and shortchange the ability of those affected by proposed developments to participate in decisions about how much additional development would be allowed in individual development projects. We believe the Council’s original decision, to maintain the current “tier” system, was probably the correct decision, because it emphasizes the concerns of the public, instead of advancing the concerns of the developers at the expense of the public. Our specific request is that no action be taken on this item until after there has been effective public outreach and explanation. In addition, it makes sense to consider further inducements for developers at the same time the Council considers how to maximize the production of affordable inclusionary units. Please do not adopt the staff recommendation on Agenda Item #20 at your August 28, 2018 meeting.
On Agenda Item # 23 We believe the Council should take no action on this item at the August 28, 2018, meeting, and should consider this recommendation only after there has been effective public outreach and explanation. This item is labeled as a “Community Outreach” policy, the policy itself needs to undergo some community outreach. We believe that the policy currently proposed is not as strongly protective of public participation in the development process as it ought to be. Please do not adopt the staff recommendation on Agenda Item #23 at your August 28, 2018 meeting.
