Petition update"Stop High Density Zoning for Water St and Soquel Ave. in Santa Cruz, Calif.”Tomorrow Aug., 14 is the Meeting at the Santa Cruz City Council for 1024 Soquel
S BurkSanta Cruz, CA, United States
Aug 13, 2018

.The 1024 Soquel Appeal is Tues., Aug 14 after the City cancelled at the last minute the appeal June 26th. We hope to see some of you at the hearing. We would love to have people speak out about their concerns to the City Council. If you are so inclined, you can also send a letter to the City Council - ideally before 5 p.m. today about the project.

The developer of this project was on the original Corridor Advisory Committee involved in working on re-zoning to include 5 and 6 stories on some parts of Soquel and Water St. and hopes to make this project go through with reduced parking and tandem parking, reduced setbacks, and is using height exceptions as "design elements". The design is industrial modern using cheap materials and devoid of site, commercial or neighborhood context. There is a large antenna on the top of the building and the design does not look appropriate next to the surrounding buildings. If you type in Save Santa Cruz in the search box on Facebook you can see a picture of what is proposed. The commercial space is intended to be office space for the developer/consultant. If the design went better with surrounding buildings without a circular piece in the front with a large antenna and the parking was improved it would be a better situation. If you feel this is true please attend the meeting at 2 pm Tues., Aug 14. Thank you.
