TONIGHT! Urgent Call to Action!
Attend the Santa Cruz City Council meeting on housing/development on TUESDAY, DEC. 5, 7:00 p.m. at City Hall downtown. If you can’t be there in person, please send an email letter to the council by 5 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 4 at citycouncil@ cityofsantacruz.com . ATTENDING IN PERSON MAKES MORE OF IN IMPACT. WE NEED TO FILL THE ENTIRE CITY COUNCIL CHAMBERS. NOW IS THE TIME FOR ACTION. Your comments don’t need to be long but should speak to the urgent need to keep Santa Cruz livable, protecting the town we love while we address the need for affordable housing. Address traffic. Neighborhood protection. Cite lack of neighborhood protection for neighborhoods for example lights shining in neighborhoods from new development on Ocean St. Now is the time to stand up for your neighborhood! DEMAND AT LEAST 35% PERCENTAGE OF AFFORDABLE HOUSING IN ANY RE-ZONING AND NOTHING MORE THAN 3 TO 4 FLOORS TOTAL INCLUDING ROOF LINE AND MECHANICAL UNITS ON ROOF. DEVELOPMENT WITH DESIGN STANDARDS ONLY.
VERY IMPORTANT MEETING. TAKE ACTION. NOW IS THE TIME. More signatures are needed just 144 before we reach 1,500. Tell others to sign.
Points to include in comments or email:
- AFFORDABLE HOUSING: Any new development should include below-market-rate housing, with an inclusionary rate of at least 35%.
- HEIGHT LIMITS: Development height along corridors should be limited to 36 feet, with adequate setbacks and green spaces.
- TRAFFIC/PARKING - ALREADY BAD: Traffic study “hot spots” should be incorporated into all plans for development, with development limited wherever it will contribute to additional congestion at the most impacted intersections. Parking requirements for new developments should not be waived or xed, as parking overflow impacts our neighborhoods.
- KEEP SANTA CRUZ AUTHENTIC AND LIVABLE: Our neighborhoods are precious to us. We must preserve neighborhood character and integrity, historic and cultural landmarks.
- NEIGHBORHOODS MATTER: Neighborhoods should have a stronger role in decision-making on developments that impact existing residents. The Santa Cruz City Council is to represent the residents of the city not developers interest.
- UCSC must take greater responsibility for its role in providing adequate student housing. Why hasn't the city council visited the UC Regents regarding this problem?
- OFFICIALLY REMOVE CORRIDORS PLAN: This plan, which does not adequately address affordable housing, would worsen already bad traffic and threaten neighborhood integrity, should be scrapped. Read up and be informed before it is too late. BRING A NEIGHBOR AND FRIEND ATTEND THIS MEETING.
