Santa Clarita Needs a Public-Use Running Track

Santa Clarita Needs a Public-Use Running Track
The Issue
Santa Clarita has long been recognized as a runner friendly city. In fact, The Road Runners Club of America recognized our city’s commitment to runners by awarding Santa Clarita the prestigious designation of Runner Friendly Community in 2016.
Our local government provides many resources for runners with one striking omission. The city lacks a running track that is accessible to the public. Tracks exist at many local schools and colleges, but they are rarely available for use by individuals and organizations. This creates challenges for runners since track workouts are an integral part of developing running skills.
The community would benefit from the creation of a public 400m track. Youth and adult running groups, local gyms and fitness centers, and schools lacking on-campus tracks would utilize it. Individuals looking for a safe, accessible and convenient place to run or walk would also welcome it. A running track could even generate revenue by providing a venue for sponsored track and field tournaments, recreational activities, and charity events.
Santa Clarita has a history of producing state and national champions as well as Olympic runners. To maintain this level of excellence, expand the community’s ability to meet the needs of runners, and enhance the city’s status as promoting an active, healthy lifestyle, we need a public-use running track.
Please join us in urging the city of Santa Clarita to build a track that is accessible by all. Show your support by signing this petition.
