Set a "zero net increase" threshold for greenhouse gas emissions

The Issue

Scientists say climate change is an urgent issue impacting all continents. We need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 40-70% in the next thirty years to avoid, “severe, pervasive and irreversible impacts for people and ecosystems."*

Santa Barbara County can be part of the solution or part of the problem.

  • Santa Barbara County is about to set a cap on greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) from new industrial sources.
  • The State Lands Commission has temporarily set our “cap” at zero. That is appropriate because we need to DECREASE our overall GHG emissions, not increase them!
  • Oil companies emit more GHGs than anyone else around here, and they are pressuring our local officials to allow them to pollute more, for free!
  • Tell the county that we need a ZERO THRESHOLD because climate change is real, urgent and we need to do our part.

Don't let oil companies regulate themselves! Join the EDC, the CEC, the Sierra Club of Santa Barbara, 350 Santa Barbara, UCSB professors and other citizens in declaring:

Increasing emissions in Santa Barbara County is unacceptable. Set a "zero net increase" threshold for greenhouse gas emissions.
