Require Clear & Direct Warnings of PERMANENT Hair Loss After Use of Taxotere/Docetaxel

Taxotere is a chemotherapy drug that can leave women without hair PERMANENTLY.
This chemo drug has been around in the US since 2005 as a treatment for women with breast cancer, but it wasn’t until 2016 that American women were warned that the hair loss could be permanent – and even then, they’d have to hunt though dozens of pages to find the warning for permanent alopecia.
Taxotere, otherwise known as Docetaxel, is a synthetic chemotherapy drug made by Sanofi-Aventis that can leave women permanently bald after they finish their treatment.
Alopecia, or permanent baldness, was a known side effect of the drug as it had occurred in 6-10% of patients that used it in Europe prior to it ever coming to the U.S. However women in the U.S. were not warned.
WHY IT MATTERS:
Women who are gearing up for their battle with cancer shouldn’t have to hunt to page 27 of the Taxotere safety informational handout to discover one small sentence: “Cases of permanent alopecia have been reported.”
There should be clear and direct warnings that women could permanently lose their hair. They should be provided with this information before treatment so that they can make an informed decision. It should be their choice to move forward, or to try another equally effective form of chemotherapy that doesn’t have this side effect.
The Taxotere “Product Monograph” which includes their warning labels and all information can be founds at the link below:
Please join us in demanding that Sanofi-Aventis and Winthrop, Inc. change their warning labels to highlight the risk of permanent hair loss in their “Serious Warnings and Precautions” section on page 5 of their product monograph.
