This petition stems from a deeply personal incident. In October 2024, a close friend, who is also a dedicated civil servant, was brutally assaulted near the Sandy Springs MARTA station. He was tracked down to an area that was shrouded in blind spots, outside the reach of surveillance cameras. This lack of evidence has made it nearly impossible to apprehend the perpetrator(s) of this cruel act. The primary concern is that this perpetrator, or others with similar intentions, could continue to target innocent victims in our community and escape justice. 

To address this very real danger, we are asking for the implementation of full surveillance camera coverage around the Sandy Springs MARTA station with no blind spots. This measure is vital to ensure the safety of all MARTA riders, residents of Sandy Springs, and visitors. No one should feel anxious or at risk while commuting, and everyone deserves a secure environment.

Studies show comprehensive security camera implementation can deter potential criminals and provide critical evidence for identifying and apprehending suspects. 

Therefore, we urgently call upon those in power to address this situation. Each day that passes without action increases the risk of repeat incidents.
