Sandy Springs Residents Want Protection & Preservation of our Tree Canopy

Sandy Springs Residents Want Protection & Preservation of our Tree Canopy
The Issue
PETITION To the City Council of Sandy Springs and Mayor Rusty Paul
We the undersigned urge the city council of Sandy Springs to participate in and support our creation of a Citizens Advisory Task Force for the Preservation of our Tree Canopy and old growth trees. This task force intends to make recommendations to the City Council on how to better preserve our tree canopy and trees that add so much to our Quality of Life. We strongly oppose further clear cutting of any residential property within the city of Sandy Springs and want greater focus on Heritage trees, landmark, protected & boundary trees.
We encourage and support the council’s adoption of a more restrictive and protective tree ordinance particularly where builders who will not be living in our neighborhood are concerned and will provide the council with recommendations. We are particularly outraged that a 150+ year old healthy White Oak was decimated on Dudley Lane by a builder last week who appears to show no regard for our enjoyment of our neighborhood nor the ecological result and effects upon our residents due to the loss of such a monumental Heritage tree.
