Since this petition was started, there has been much discussion on the Bell End name and its origins. One lady in my Facebook Group for memories of the area had written notes on her Mother's memories of growing up in Rowley Regis. Anyone old enough (like me) to have relatives who grew up prior to radio, TV and modern Media, will know the strength of oral history. This lady was told by older residents that the name Bell End came from the bell that was on the Royal Hunting Lodge there. We know that the area was used by Royalty, hence the Regis, added to the place name of Rowley. As this lady's tale dates back way before today's trend of made up 'Fake News' it seems very likely that this is the true origin of the name and that, the 19th Century mine was named for something far older.
