The Issue

As the students, workers, and alumni of the University of Arizona we deserve a safe campus on which to live and learn.

Help us build a Sanctuary Campus that protects everyone from the violence and brutality of ICE and CBP.

By signing this petition, you will be helping us show collective support for the demands to the UA administration.

Sanctuary for All: We demand the University of Arizona be solidified as a sanctuary campus wherein the Office of the President and Office of the General Counsel commit to protecting every student and worker, including, but not limited to, undocumented and documented UA community members against state-sanctioned violence.

  • We demand a written statement of commitment from the University that bars ICE and CBP from campus, including, but not limited to, at Banner Hospital and UA student housing.
  • We demand that the University refuse to share university records and other identifiable information (e.g., FERPA and HIPAA protected data) from or about UA students with the DHS and, by extension, ICE and CBP.
  • We demand the University implement protections for undocumented and documented students and workers from ICE kidnappings ("arrests"), including free legal representation for UA students and workers targeted by ICE.
  • We demand that the University create and disseminate classroom toolkits on what to do during ICE raids to ensure students and workers are safe from DHS. As a corollary, we demand regular departmental trainings to instruct and prepare students and workers for such events.
  • We demand the removal of all security cameras and facial recognition technologies (e.g., Flock cameras such as ALPR (automatic license plate readers) on the UA campus that track our movements without a warrant.
  • We demand that DHS be disallowed from participating in any job fairs at the University of Arizona.
  • We demand that the University abolish the National Center for Border Security and Immigration (BORDERS) in the Eller College of Management for their direct collaboration with ICE and CBP, which includes ending the funding and making of AVATAR (Automated Virtual Agent for Truth Assessments in Real-Time), a surveillance facial recognition technology used by DHS at the USA/Mexico border.
