Sanction Boys High School Volleyball in Oregon

Sanction Boys High School Volleyball in Oregon
The Issue
EXPONENTIAL GROWTH
Boys have been playing volleyball in Oregon for decades, with growth expanding (even during the COVID downturn). It is the fastest growing sport in the country with five states adopting boys volleyball in 2022 alone (Utah, South Carolina, Delaware, Ohio and Indiana). It is now being offered in 25 states across the country.
EXPERIMENTAL 2022 SEASON
In 2022, some Oregon High School coaches and girls volleyball players worked in partnership to form an unofficial season and state tournament that had hundreds of participants. Currently, we have boys club volleyball being offered in central Oregon, Portland, Eugene and Medford, but access to club volleyball can be expensive, leaving it inaccessible to most high school students. High School Boys Volleyball would add another healthy extra-curricular opportunity through their local schools and introduce the sport to tens of thousands of youth.
WORKING WITH OSAA
Even though Girls Volleyball has been an official high school sport since 1974 (almost 5 decades), boys still do not have the opportunity to play for their high schools under the OSAA umbrella. We are working with the OSAA to approve Boys Volleyball as an emerging sport on a trial basis and eventually get it approved as a sanctioned sport.
SHOW YOUR SUPPORT
Please sign this petition calling for the sanctioning of Boys High School Volleyball as an official sport in Oregon. Support boys who play volleyball so they may have equal opportunity and receive the same validation, benefits, and recognition that other deserving athletes enjoy in their schools.
IT’S TIME TO ADD BOYS VOLLEYBALL AS AN EMERGING OREGON HIGH SCHOOL SPORT!
