Allow BMX Bikes into the new Santa Rosa Park

The Issue

This petition has been created in order to change the policy regarding BMX bikes at the new Santa Rosa Park. Currently, the rules:

“Coasting devices permitted in the Skate Park are limited to skateboards, inline skate and scooters.  All other uses and devices, such as motorized scooters or bicycles.”

Currently, Paso Robles, Atascadero, and Templeton Parks located 20 minutes north both allow bicycles. The park is being constructed by California Skateparks who is responsible for the construction of Lake Cunningham Park in San Jose, Santa Clarita Park, Mosqueda Park in Fresno, and other parks throughout the country, which allow the use of bicycles. By signing this petition you are not only supporting BMX, but also our ability to enjoy the park our money helped build.

“The SLO Skate Park is fully funded at $2.2 million dollars by Parkland Development fees, numerous donations, a Tony Hawk Grant, and General Fund monies.  The General Fund portion was made possible by Measure Y funding, your ½ cent sales tax at work!”

Throughout the fundraising efforts for this project, BMX riders were in attendance and our tax dollars have also gone towards the project through Measure Y.

Preventing the use of BMX bikes in the park is unacceptable. San Luis Obispo is known for it’s cycling community and BMX bikes provide another outlet for kids and adults to exercise, have fun, and enjoy the park they helped create.
