The San Juan Unified School District put out a post announcing that graduation will be streaming via Youtube. My fellow seniors and I are not okay with this idea and we are willing to do anything else for a graduation. We're afraid that we're not going to be heard so help us be heard! Please take a minute to read why we are fighting for this and why it is important! 

We do not think that having a virtual ceremony is an award of 12+ years of hard work and schooling. All seniors have put in 12+ yrs of hard work and dedication just for graduation. Through everything that's happening in the news, it's important to know that every class of 2020 is still here. And we are being effected by this as well. We went through 12 yrs of schooling. 12 yrs of trying to keep our grades up. 12 yrs of going to school every day just so we can hear our names and walk across that stage. But because of something we can't control, instead of trying to find a solution, we're just making it virtual. It feels like someone has taken a part of our dreams and crushed it. We have been told by countless amount of adults to work hard. To make the most our of everything just to walk. But now asked to send a recording of us saying our OWN name.

This graduation is also meant for families. There's kids who are the first to graduate, who never thought they would be able to graduate, who changed their life around in order to graduate. 

We got the best part of senior year stripped away. Our senior ball! Our senior breakfast! Our awards night! Our AVID seniors got their AVID graduation cancelled!

Please we don't need this too! There has to be another way where everyone will be happy. 

I can't speak for everyone but there are a handful of kids I talked to who said they would come back to EC and do graduation later. Yes it will take work. Yes it will be difficult to find a way where all seniors can make it because some will be going away for college. But majority come back for Hollidays and such and I'm sure this would mean more than a youtube video. And this is only ONE IDEA. There could be others!

We wish that you can help us speak up. because WE are the class of 2020! WE are the ones Graduating! We are the ones that are walking across that Stage! If everyone in the past has had their turn to walk, we should be able to make up how WE want to walk at OUR GRADUATION!
