Support Orcas Cyclovia: a car-free event + fundraiser for animals

The Issue

Please help spread the word to friends and neighbors!  Orcas Cyclovia is a car-free event for bikes, pedestrians, and other non-motorized road users, to create a healthy, low carbon footprint, family and pet friendly activity for both local citizens and visitors alike. This is will connect Orcas Island and San Juan County with a global and national movement, Cyclovia, a car-free program started in Bogota, Colombia, that sparked similar events in Anacortes, Seattle, Spokane, Portland, Tucson, and dozens of other US cities and towns.  More information here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ciclovía

Orcas Cyclovia will be 9:00am to 3:00pm on Saturday, September 28, following the Global Climate Strike called by Swedish youth Greta Thunberg.

**When signing this petition, please include what section of the route you may be interested in traveling and what mode of non-motorized travel you may choose.

This event requests assistance from San Juan County Public Works and Sheriff's Department to close the roads to motorized traffic, except for emergency service vehicles, starting from the Orcas Post Office at 121 Killebrew Lake Road, continuing on Dolphin Bay Road, and continuing on Orcas Road from the Eastsound Kennels, and going to the 3-way intersection at Orcas Road and Crow Valley Road.

This event will be a fundraiser for local non-profit organizations advocating for animals in San Juan County: Island Haven; Orcas Animal Protection Society; and Wolf Hollow.

**Please show your support to San Juan County officials to be aware of the level of community interest so that both local citizens and visitors can enjoy a car-free event on Orcas Island.  SJC Sheriff Ron Krebs has recommended coordination for Orcas Cyclovia with the deputies guild for assistance with traffic.  Please share with friends and neighbors.  Let's move our bodies and give our cars a rest!

Many thanks for supporting this as a car-free event in San Juan County!!!
