Petition update4-story, 162-unit Supportive Housing Complex Does Not Belong in a Residential NeighborhoodCity Council Final Decision Rescheduled to this Tuesday, June 28th

Because of the tragic fatal accident that claimed the life of San Jose Police Officer Michael Katherman, June 14th's city council meeting was canceled. The San Jose City Council and Mayor will now hear our appeal and make their final decision. Mayor Liccardo publicly supports the project despite our concerns. City Councilmen Chappie Jones and Johnny Khamis also joined the mayor in publicly supporting this project. Khamis represents Almaden Valley. When the county started studying using land as a safe place for homeless to sleep in their cars or RVs in his district, he successfully fought against it. There are 16 units of Special Needs housing in his district. If the Senter Rd project succeeds, we will have about 600 units of Special Needs housing in our City Council District. Councilman Jones represents West San Jose and his district includes 0 units of Special Needs housing. Just last week he voted to allow a developer to demolish a large apartment complex that was under rent control, which provided an affordable place to live for many families, in order to build luxury apartments. We can clearly see what is going on here. Will you join your neighbors and say enough is enough? We believe the city and county are violating Federal Housing policies and the precedent set by last year's Supreme Court decision, Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs v. the Inclusive Communities Project Inc. See link. City Council Meeting 7:00 PM San Jose City Hall Free Parking in the Underground Garage on 6th Street, between Santa Clara St & San Fermando St or on the street after 6 PM.
