Katelyn G started this petition to San Francisco State University and

We cannot stand idle in the face of cruelty and injustice. The callous murder of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and countless other Black lives committed by police officers should galvanize all of us into action. San Francisco State University prides itself on social justice and should, therefore, take action to organize efforts against racism.

In order to combat racist rhetoric from incoming students and professors, we are demanding that SFSU create and enforce mandatory anti-racism training. We propose that this training is created by a dedicated coalition of students and faculty from SFSU and that the leaders of SFSU work to organize it.

If this happens, we will not only unify as a school, but we will enforce anti-racism learning as it is necessary. We must demonstrate to the public that we are an institution dedicated to the advancement of social justice not only in our statements but in our actions and policies. We believe that this will lead to change within and outside of our school system.

If this does not happen, we risk being complicit in the perpetuation of social injustice and systemic racism.

We must come together at this time and fight against the continual threats of racial injustice. We need to stop letting down our Black students and our Students of Color. Black Lives Matter.

This petition is a work in progress and expected to change once more aid and information are provided from the University. 06/03- Message to SFSU: To mobilize this process, please contact the Communication Studies Graduate Department.
