This past week has been an emotional time for us. Last Saturday, we held a Gathering For Action: Justice for Jaxon Sales event at Civic Center Plaza near San Francisco City Hall. It was planned in partnership with APIENC and GAPA and was attended by nearly 100 supporters, family, and friends. We shared stories and memories about Jaxon, had poetry and written word readings, a healing meditation exercise, inspiring speakers and emcees, and an opportunity to discuss our continued demands for justice. Senator Scott Wiener attended and spoke to our gathering about grief and how our fight for answers about Jaxon's death could result in change and safety for the community. We're so grateful for Senator Wiener's support, especially as he talked about the letter he wrote to SFPD and OCME asking them to ensure that there is a complete investigation of the circumstances in Jaxon's death. We felt a lot of encouragement and energy from the gathering and from the outpouring of care and offers to walk alongside us on this long road to find answers and justice.
We also honored and celebrated Jaxon this week on the day of his second anniversary. It was a quiet day filled with reflections, a visit to the cemetery, and seeing his friends. We ended the day having dinner with family and watching a home video of Jaxon that showed his playful, hilarious sense of humor. Hearing his voice and all the funny things he was saying was bittersweet (oh how we miss him!) and made us laugh all at once.
Jaxon's soul, his heart, and his spirit amaze us every day. He deserves the respect and peace that comes with knowing the facts and what really happened to him in those early morning hours two years ago when he never made it home. We need to continue to demand the thorough and complete investigation that answers our questions and brings about the justice that he deserves. We need to continue our demands that every official or agency who has the ability to do the right thing, makes the right choice to further investigate so that we can find answers for closure, accountability, healing and peace.
Thank you to everyone and welcome to our new supporters (4.000 in less than a week). We're grateful for each of you.
