Sharky Laguana started this petition to San Francisco Board of Supervisors

Shared Spaces makes it easier to use outdoor places like sidewalks, streets, and open lots for business during the coronavirus pandemic. It has been a lifesaver for the small businesses in SF, and has brightened our neighborhoods, bringing joy and community to residents, while saving jobs we desperately need.

The cost of building a Shared Space can be intimidating for smaller businesses. The average business spends between $5-10k building platforms and seating. More elaborate spaces can cost as much as $20-30k. Some businesses are afraid to invest the time and effort in making a Shared Space, as the program could expire as soon as this December.

We are urging the San Francisco Board of Supervisors to extend the Shared Spaces program for at least three years. New York has already made theirs permanent.

This encourages smaller businesses to participate, and will lead to nicer outdoor spaces across the City. If we can provide businesses with certainty on their Shared Spaces, the entire City will be the winner. We will get wonderful places to visit and hang out, and a City that was already gorgeous beyond words will become even more beautiful and magical.

Please extend our Shared Spaces program, and make San Francisco magical again!
