Hello and thank you again for your support in our pursuit to re-open SD Unified schools this fall! As I write this, we have 240 signatures, which is awesome but I know we can get many more! Please continue to share the petition in your community.

A couple things I want to share:

  1. Superintendent Cindy Marten has been holding Facebook Live sessions on the San Diego Unified School District Facebook page on Monday mornings from 11:00 - 11:30. You can submit questions and comments for her to address live. Please let her know you want your schools to re-open this fall!
  2. The Superintendent has said numerous times that our schools may not be able to open up this fall due to budget cuts. This is unacceptable! Let her know! We need solutions instead of excuses.
  3. I was able to reach my area superintendent and discuss with her ideas for reopening schools in a way that would satisfy ALL families. Reopening schools is a very polarizing topic, so I suggested making classroom attendance "optional". Families would sign their kids up as classroom learners or distance learners. Distance learners would watch the classes live-streamed from home and fewer students would be in the classrooms. Teachers that fall into the "high risk" category and must work from home can supplement distance learning as virtual tutors. The area superintendent said this idea had not been discussed, but seemed intrigued and promised to forward it to the district for consideration.

Please let me know if you have any ideas to make this mission a success!
