Mercado Apartments is a Low Income Tax Credit Housing property that was fought for by the community of Barrio Logan. Now you have MAAC raising rents to unaffordable levels and above the new CA anti-rent gouging law. They are raising rents by hundreds of dollars, some as high as 25% increases. Every year, MAAC checks their incomes. They know that tenants can’t afford the increases. We have asked for several meetings with Arnulfo Manriquez, MAAC CEO, and he has refused to meet with the tenants. MAAC has set up a meeting for tomorrow to offer an explanation. Tenants need support from the community.

San Diego Tenants Union (SDTU) seeks to create opportunities for low-income City Heights residents to learn about their rights as tenants, become resident leaders, have access to legal guidance to remediate conflicts with landlords and advocate for city-wide changes in housing policy.
Our mission is to implement knowledge of tenant rights in underrepresented communities by training members in planning, organizing, and mobilizing through popular education to create change in housing policy.
