Linda Vista, San Diego, join us and the tenants at Morley Apartments as we demand repairs without displacement and help us fight back against rent gouging by a Trump supporting slumlord!

Tenants at the Morley Apartments have been organizing for months to fight against a looming $200-$400 rent hike.  SDTU invites you to help change the abusive conditions and rent increases that MC properties is imposing. Michael Contreras is a Trump supporter who is known to abuse his tenants. He owns thousands of units in San Diego and lives in a mansion in La Jolla.  He has overseen the displacement of thousands of families already and his plan is to continue gentrifying Linda Vista. This is the last affordable area north of the 8. These families depend on their shelter there because it’s close to their work, jobs and families.

MC Properties' owner Michael Contreras also used his low income tenants' incomes to qualify for subsidies from Campesinos Unidos to remodel the exterior of his properties.  He then went on to displace all of the tenants that he used to qualify for those subsidies and gentrified Astro Vista Apartments, ParkView Apartments, amongst others.

He is now trying to get rid of the Morley 47 because he wants to gentrify that complex next.  The tenants at Morley Apartments asked for a meeting with the owner and his daughter Natalie Contreras rejected the tenants' written request for a meeting.  Now, the tenants are left with no option but to do a Rent Strike.

We call on civil rights organizations and freedom fighters to support the tenants at Morley and the tenants at Ulric as they strike by marching on May 1st against the slumlords by NOT paying the rent increase. Tenants will bring their money orders to pay regular rent and declare a strike against the unfair rent hike. We will also demand improved living conditions and repairs to restore dignity in the working class’ shelters.
