I’m writing to encourage you to consider Dawn Rowe for re-appointment as the Third District representative on the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors (BOS). It is my understanding that a San Bernardino County Superior Court judge’s ruling directs you, in your capacity as the Governor for the State of California, to make an appointment to fill the Third District position should a vacancy occur. I currently serve as the Mayor for the Town of Yucca Valley.

As you may be aware, Ms. Rowe was appointed by the BOS on December 18, 2018 following the resignation of James Ramos, who was elected to represent the 40th State Assembly District during the 2018 General Election. Since her appointment, Ms. Rowe has performed admirably on behalf of her Third District constituents and has proven herself to be responsive and accessible.

It would be detrimental to replace Ms. Rowe on the BOS with an inexperienced appointee. Having worked with Supervisor Rowe over the past year, I can say with great certainty that in the absence of her leadership, it’s likely that a number of projects in her district won’t come to fruition.

Moreover, Supervisor Rowe has governed in a bi-partisan fashion. She truly believes in representing all interests in the Third District to best of her abilities. Whether it be providing new development guidelines for renewable energy developers, approving desperately needed affordable housing projects, or ratifying collective bargaining agreements for organized labor, she has demonstrated a willingness to reach across the aisle to find common ground with her colleagues. We need more people like her in government, not fewer.
