In the city of San Antonio, there are thousands of responsible pet owners. We have plenty of resources to get our pets microchipped, and we have lots of people who respect and follow the microchip laws and keep them updated. Ord. No. 2017-10-05-0755, your dog must be microchipped. Ordinance Ord. No. 2017-10-05-0755  Sec. 5-102, states your dog must wear tags. 

Unfortunately, even the most responsible pet owners fall victim to their pets wandering off. When the worst thing could possibly happen, such as your dog getting hit by a car and killed, its every pet parents nightmare. But even if your dog was wearing tags, and is microchipped, you will NOT be given a courteousy call that your beloved pet was killed. This does not give you the opportunity to retrieve your pet, and give them the proper respect, burial, or cremation! Your beloved family member will be scooped away to the city dump like trash.

No animal, is trash. People who care for their animals, and go above and beyond to find their pets hit a brick wall when contacting San Antonio Solid Waste Management. Pet parents need closure, and an opportunity to recieve their animals when their worst nightmare comes to life.
