Recently it became public knowledge that the board of the James Prendergast library in Jamestown New York is trying to auction off paintings in the library. This may sound mundane, however these paintings were left to the library in the will of Mrs. Prendergast herself. This clearly means the paintings were meant to stay at the library. To get around the will, the board took this to court and had the will changed so that they can legally auctions these paintings. It may now be legal, but it is far from ethical. The board members claim they do not have the means to keep the paintings in good condition, but let's acknowledge that they have the means to hire an attorney. All the politics aside, these paintings are important to Jamestown's history. In a town where so much negativity takes place, we could all use a bit of culture and fine art. These paintings were meant to stay at the library for good. Please support our cause.
