Save The Widow Cullens Well

The Issue

The legend goes that in the 17th century, Old Widow Cullen had a well at the back of her house that all the other residents of surrounding buildings were allowed to use.

Known for its hospitality, Widow Cullens Well is a well loved, well known, pub on Lincoln's Steep Hill.

Having served locals and visitors alike for over twelve years, it has built itself a reputation for being one of Lincoln's friendliest and most accommodating pubs.

Now, it's owners, Samuel Smith Brewery, have cut staff working hours for Widow Cullens - reducing seven staff to two.

There is already uproar in Lincoln at the announcement of closure, set for 13th December, and the sign noted on their door stating 'Regulars Only' over the Christmas Market.

Well, there are a few of us who won't let Widow Cullens go that easily, there are a few of us wanting to fight to keep her doors open.

The statistics for closing pubs across the UK is diabolical - in the 21st Century, people aren't going to pubs the way they used to.

We, however, stand by the likes of Long Live The Local and CAMRA in fighting for pubs across the country because these places are a part of the community, they are a part of the local infrastructure.

If we can't keep the doors of such places open, we at least want to show those who are closing them that there is a whole heap of people against it.

Please get behind us in saying "Long Live The Local", long live keeping those beer taps flowing!
